Thistle House Primitives: October Give Away!!
Some day I'll give something away too, but for now I have fun finding great giveaways and hope that my name will be picked out of one of them!!
Cool morning here in Colorado, but suppose to be in the 80's this afternoon. Ash has to go for a check up, to get her incision looked at. She doesn't want anyone to see it. She barely lets me look but it is healing fine and she is almost back to 100%. She didn't want to go to school this week, but that is okay by me. It will be there next week. She was still a little sore and had a bad rash from what they used to prep her tummy for surgery. That didn't show up for two days, so we were a little puzzled as to why she had a rash. It was all over her little tummy and really red and bumpy!! She was really good about not itching it, but it looked uncomfortable!! She has been so good through this whole thing and we are glad she is on the mend and acting like her self again!!
Have a blessed day!!

Ashley is My HERO!!
I have a new Hero!! It is Ashley!! She had her surgery on Friday and did wonderfully. She was so brave and hardly cried at all, I think Mom and Dad did more than her this time!! She had an umbilical remnant removed from her abdominal area and they also took out her appendix while they were there!
She was brave and made us proud. Thanks to all
of you that prayed for her or sent an email wishing her well, she is a very healthy happy girl now and we are so blessed to have her in our lives. We realize that our victory with her is great but seeing some the the children at Children's Hospital we realize that we are lucky that we got to bring home a happy, healthy girl, some people won't get to have that joy or have a very long road a head of them. I pray for them now that they too can see the smile in on their child's face again very soon!!
God Bless,
Joleen

2009 Farmers Almanac is out today!!!
Farmers’ Almanac Trivia
Why are barns painted red?
Ever wonder why old barns are usually red in color? Red is (or, perhaps, was) a popular color for barns due not to its color shade but for its usefulness. Many years ago, choices for paints, sealers and other building materials did not exist. Farmers had to be resourceful in finding or making a paint that would protect and seal the wood on their barns. Hundreds of years ago, many farmers would seal their barns with linseed oil, which is an orange-colored oil derived from the seeds of the flax plant. To this oil, they would add a variety of things, most often milk and lime, but also ferrous oxide, or rust. Rust was plentiful on farms and because it killed fungi and mosses that might grow on barns, was very effective as a sealant. It turned the mixture red in color. When paint became more available, many people chose red paint for their barns in honor of tradition.

Stuffing pillows made easier!!!
I was stuffing a prim pillow to list today and I have been using the 'cluster stuff' to make them feel more 'feather pillow like' and if you have used it before it is a pain in your behind!!! It gets all over and is hard to hang onto. Unless you leave a very big fill hole in the end of what ever you are stuffing, it seems to take FOREVER!!
Do you have an old jar filler hanging around. You know what you use to fill jars when canning!!
LIGHT BULB!!!
Why not use it to fill up your pillows?? I have a very old glass one my Grandma King used may years ago. It works like a dream!!!. I just put the funnel opening in the fill hole and started stuffing!! I filled that pillow in about 1/3 of the time is usually takes.!!!! Yippee!!!
Blessings, Joleen
It goes without saying!!!

Souffle Anyone??... Rusting Recipe
This one is very easy to use and will is not dangerous to use, unless you spill it on your carpet.. it will be rust colored..
Here it is:
One pint hydrogen peroxide
1/4 C Vinegar ( I use white)
2 TBLS. salt (table salt it fine)
Mix these three ingredients in a plastic bowl you don't use again, it will be rusted too!!! Stir with a plastic spoon until the salt is dissolved. Add your items to rust, bells, pins etc,.. They will start turning your solution brown in an hour or so, but you can leave them overnight or for several hours, which is what I do, you will get better results. When done drain, but DO NOT RINSE THE ITEMS OFF, then lay them out on a thick layer of paper towels or newspaper on an old cookie sheet, and let dry in the sun or air dry. If you need them like, NOW, I did put a batch in the oven for a quick dry at about 200* with the door ajar, but lay them on parchment paper not paper towels or newspaper in the oven. We don't want a fire!!! And be careful, them suckers get hot!!! NOTE!! And very important!!! They didn't tell me this, had to find out the hard way!!! See pictures below!!! Make sure you put your plastic container with the solution in it on an old cookie sheet with sides. This gets a good head of foam on the top and does overflow and will make a mess on your counter. It may not overflow in a larger container, but the foam gets pretty big!!! Also, I use an old whipped cream container to do my rusting, SAVE THE LID and punch some holes in the top, and use it to drain the items you have rusted, this will save your strainer or anything else you may use to drain them. I then clean them out and save it for the next batch. I have added pictures from when the foam forms to my end result. It is quick easy and non toxic, I'm sure you wouldn't want to drink it so keep it away from anyone that may do that!! But the bleach recipe if very toxic and can be very harmful to those that have respiratory issues. Have fun and good luck!!
See what I mean by Souffle???
This is what they look like coming out of the solution. Keep them close together, don't know why, but they 'rust' better.
All dry and ready to use!!!
Now add them to your prim creations!!!
Have fun!!!
Adds just the right touch to anything PRIM!!!

Where do you belong!!??
You Belong in Fall |
Intelligent, introspective, and quite expressive at times... You appreciate the changes in color, climate, and mood that fall brings Whether you're carving wacky pumpkins or taking long drives, autumn is a favorite time of year for you |
I love the cool air and crisp nights, the colors of fall and the smells. Leaving them windows open all day to let the house air out and the fresh smells in!! Football!! I do love Fall!!
Fall is around the corner!!
It's time for me to start thinking of Christmas items for my eBay listings, but I will linger in the cool days of Fall before we have to start shoveling snow!!!
We did yard work, sticker plants have invaded our back lot and I think I pulled for two hours and didn't get them all, do you ever get them all???
Ashley drove the go cart all by her self yesterday and was so proud of herself and I think Joe and I were as happy as she was. She is doing so much better since being sick and really a healthy little girl.. Brandon has been my sick one this week, but a trip to the Dr has him back on the mend. He missed all but one day of school this week!!
Well I have dinner cooking....
Blessings, Joleen

This should probably be taped to your bathroom mirror
where one could read it every day.
You may not realize it, but it's 100% true.
1. There are at least two people in this world
that you would die for.
2. At least 15 people in this world
love you in some way.
3. The only reason anyone would ever hate you
is because they want to be just like you.
4. A smile from you can bring happiness to anyone,
even if they don't like you.
5. Every night, SOMEONE thinks about you
before they go to sleep.
6. You mean the world to some one.
7. You are special and unique.!
8. Someone that you don't even know exists loves you.
9. When you make the biggest mistake ever,
something good comes from it.
10. When you think the world has turned its back on you
take another look.
11. Always remember the compliments you received.
Forget about the rude remarks.
And always remember....
when life hands you Lemons,
ask for Sugar and call me over!
